1. You're Entitled To NOTHING: You don't have a right to that easy winning hand that you believe life should have automatically dealt you, but hat you do have is an obligation to play the hell out of the card you've been dealt. Life isn't fair, but if you take a step back you'll often realize that not only is your hand, a hand worth playing, but you were dealt that hand for a reason. Even if you need to switch games, discard a few items, shuffle, and then shuffle some more, your hand is a winner, it's just a matter of how you decide to play it.
2. Knowledge Is Power: We literally have an unlimited amount of information at our fingertips. We have such easy and immediate access to information nowadays there is no reason not to educate yourself. Read a book, listen to a podcast, use the web to research something that sparks your interest, have a meaningful conversation, have a conversation with a stranger, enroll in some free online courses. You are never too old to stop learning, and your education/knowledge is something nobody will ever be able to take away from you.
3. The 24 Hour Rule & The Five-Second Rule: If you have an idea you need to act within 5 seconds of having the idea or it dies. The 24-hour rule- before reacting to anything ask yourself if you will still feel the same way about it in 24 hours.
4. It's Okay To Walk Away From Relationships That No Longer Serve You: Just because two people grow apart- doesn't mean either person has done anything wrong. You don't need to exhaust your self trying to maintain a relationship that is no longer working. Whether that be a friendship, romantic relationship, or your relationship with your job.. etc. the people that want to be in your life will make an effort to be there, and those are the people that deserve your time and attention. Let go of trying to force a puzzle piece into a slot that no longer fits, because even if you manage to force it into place, the edges will remain damaged beyond repair, and when you try to step back and look at the big picture, that one damaged piece is likely to take away from all of the pieces that appear to fit so well together.
5.Honey Attracts. Vinegar Repels: You can't live a positive life with a negative attitude. Even if you wake up every morning feeling discouraged, lost, or un-easy about your current situation, focus on 'powering through' because you'll never be able to make positive changes and attract all the good that is in the world, if you close yourself off to it.
6. Mindset Is EVERYTHING: You have to be your own biggest fan. The only way to do the impossible is to first believe that you can. Figure out what you want, even if it's only for the very near future, and then figure out exactly what you need to do to propel yourself to obtaining your goals.
7. "Failure" Is Not Something To Be Feared: It's okay to fail one hundred times- or one million times, just so long as you don't quit until you achieve your goals. Each failure just means you're one step closer to obtaining whatever it is you've been working towards. Personally, I see failure as something to be ashamed of. I believe that failure is only the opportunity to begin again, only each time you've gained new knowledge and experience to get you one step closer to your desired outcome. After all, winners lose more than losers ever will. "There is no failure except in no longer trying. ."
8. You Are Capable of More Than You Know: Some days this is harder to believe than others, so you'll just have to fake it until you make it, and that's OKAY.
9. There Is Light At The End Of Every Tunnel: Even on your worst day- just remember it's only temporary.
10. If you want to be successful you have to be self-aware: In order to improve and grow as a person, you need to be aware of your strengths and weaknesses. Be brutally honest with yourself, and never stop trying to improve.
11. Other People's Opinions Don't Matter.. 99.9% of the time: You have to find out what makes you happy, and just go for it. Don't let the opinions of others stop you from living your best life. On the flip side your close friends and family know you the best so don't write their opinions off completely.
12. Change Is GOOD: In order to grow, you need to put yourself out of your comfort zone. Look at change as a positive & embrace it.
13. His Plan Trumps Ours: No matter what plans we make for ourselves- God's plan will always trump ours. We need to remember to trust in his plan- even when we don't understand it.
14. 80-20 Rule: The easiest path to success- At least 80% of your time should be spent working; whether that be working towards aspects of a career that you're being compensated for, working on a passion project, or just working on becoming a better version of you, put in the work now, so you can reap the benefits later- the other 20% can be used for fun.
15. You Will Never Grow If You're Always Comfortable: You have to force yourself out of your comfort zone if you want to grow. Think about this- you learn far more from talking to people with differing opinions- than from only talking to like-minded people.
16. Ideas Don't Mean Anything- If There Is No Execution: It's not enough to just come up with ideas or make plans. You have to execute or at least act on them -for them to have any real meaning.
17. Failing To Plan Is Planning to Fail: While being spontaneous, and carefree works out SOMETIMES.... when it comes to making an important decision or trying to accomplish a goal- luck always favors the prepared mind.
18. Always Assume A Persons Intentions Are Good: We are so quick to jump to conclusions about people when they do something we don't understand or dislike. This assumption often causes us to believe the person doesn't have good intentions. Just because we don't understand someone's way of doing things- doesn't mean they are don't have good intentions.
19. Don't Wait Until Tomorrow To Do What Can Be Done Today: Think about all the time you've spent dwelling on or absolutely dreading getting started on something you need to get done, to only finally begin the task, and realize it was virtually painless. Make a list, write down your top 5 priorities each day, and let there be no excuses why you can't go to bed that night with all of your items crossed off.
20. Be Present: Put your phone down- and not just upside down on the table- put it AWAY, take your headphones out, and shut your laptop off. When you're old and grey you will not reminisce on the time you spent scrolling, you'll think back on the people, experiences, and conversations you had- that didn't take place through technology.
Thanks for the Memories (& Lessons) 2 0 1 9 & Cheers to 2 0 2 0
